IX.5.11 Pompeii. December 2007. Peristyle n, garden area with triclinium, looking towards south-east corner.
According to Jashemski, the garden had a portico on the north and west.
This was supported by four columns painted black below, white above and joined by a low wall.
Most of the garden was occupied by a masonry triclinium.
Mau believed the extension, visible on the left of the photo, was a seat for children.
On the south garden wall was a large animal painting, totally destroyed.

Triclinium showing seating for children at end of triclinium.
According to Mau, the children’s seat was preserved, a low bench of masonry about 40 inches (1 metre) long connecting with the projecting arm of the lower couch.

Occupa tutta l’area
letti, a piano inclinato, era addossato a muri.
