VI.11.10 Pompeii. Found in small room 44, on left side of room 43, on 10th September 1835. Mosaic showing a cock fight in the presence of two youths. Now in Naples Archaeological Museum, inventory number 9982. According to the information card – Cockfight between the personifications of Victory and Defeat. Mosaic emblema in opus vermiculatum. The scene depicts a cockfight in which the losing bird is bleeding. The owners are shown in the background: the sad owner of the defeated bird is depicted on the right together with a manservant, while the owner of the victorious bird on the left offers a wreath to the statue of Priapus; a boy on the right carries the victory palm. (First half of the Ist century BC.) (Lotta di galli tra le personificazioni delle Vittoria e della Sconfitta. Emblema pavimentale in opus vermiculatum. La scena raffigura una lotta di galli, con quello perdente che sanguina. According to the information card –

Cockfight between the personifications of Victory and Defeat.

Mosaic emblema in opus vermiculatum.

The scene depicts a cockfight in which the losing bird is bleeding.

La scena raffigura una lotta di galli, con quello perdente che sanguina.

In secondo piano, sono i proprietari: triste quello del gallo sconfitto, a destra, insieme a un servetto; mentre quello del gallo vittorioso, a sinistra, offre una corona alla statua di Priapo; un fanciullo, da destra, porta la palma della vittoria. Prima metà del I secolo a.C.)
