VI.17.41 Pompeii. May 2006. Painted east wall in ala on south side of atrium. According to PPM, this wall was partially cut away during the Bourbon excavations. It was painted with a podium of yellow and red bands, the middle zone had purple panels separated by green pilasters.

VI.17.41 Pompeii. September 2004. Looking north-east from rear of house towards north wall of tablinum. According to PPM, this room has been very badly preserved, it was damaged during the Bourbon excavations when the south wall of the neighbouring room was cut away, and was possibly deprived of its mosaic floor at that time. On the north wall, the only wall that retains any decoration, the zoccolo was red and in it, in the centre of the wall a female figure can be seen. In the middle area of the wall, resting his right foot on the base of a podium was a huge figure and nearby the bow of a ship. The zoccolo appeared to be more sunken into the wall than the rest of the wall, and with its sharp break from the painting of the middle area, may have been of a previous wall decoration.

Looking north-east from rear of house, oecus 15 in south-west corner, across a corridor/stairs towards north wall of tablinum.

 

VI.17.41 Pompeii, according to PPM – “This painting has been wrongly attributed to the tablinum of VI.17.41, the pieces recomposed from numerous fragments and shows a flying female Genius. The characteristics of the figure do not seem to agree with the recognisable remains from the north wall of the tablinum, therefore one must think that the fragments had been found in this area during the excavation in the 1950’s and perhaps belong to the decoration of oecus 15 in the south-west of the house at VI.7.41, or of triclinium 20 in the north-west corner of the same house.” See Carratelli, G.
