According to Giacobello –
“In a room probably intended for the non-free members of the familia, a niche was created with a cultural function in a recess in the south wall; this lararium niche interrupted the Fourth Style fresco that decorated the room, which is also present on the west wall. The other walls are devoid of decoration and simply plastered.”

Stabiae, Villa Arianna, found 16th June 1759. Room W.28, two paintings of women.
According to Grasso, these came from the room numbered 28 on Weber’s plan.
On the right a woman lifts the hem of her cloak to display a peplum finely embroidered in gold with naked figures in different poses.
On the left a young woman holds a 5-string lyre.
She wears a crown of ivy, a long tunic that falls from the shoulder across to the hip and sandals laced up to the ankles.
The drapery of the garments is tastefully archaic.
