From
PAH,1,1, p.260, 5th October 1771, and addendum p.124 and p.157. (See No.26
below, on the plan by La Vega).
Continuing the said excavation, we have evacuated two rooms (La Vega 25 and 26), only detecting one painting (approximately 0.48m long, 0.24m high) of meat things, as chicken, eggs, etc., and this has been cut by the young boys of Canart. They have cut 12 pieces of white mosaic with black stripe, from the floor of some rooms already discovered earlier.
According
to Pagano and Prisciandaro, this was La Vega no.26, found here on 5th October
1771, a painting with meat, chicken, eggs, etc. (NAP 8643).

and Prisciandaro, R., 2006. Studio sulle

Napoli. Naples: Nicola Longobardi, (p.71).
(NOTE: If it was found at La Vega, No. 25, the painting “of meat things, as chicken, eggs, etc” this would be the room at the east end of the north portico, so has also been placed there on this website).

PAH 1,1, p.265-6, 8th August 1772, addendum p. 158.
We have excavated in two rooms under the large loggia overlooking the garden, but having found the walls damaged by the impact of the soil and the weight of that burden, we must repair a portion of its walls with masonry, before finishing freeing them. On some days, we are also working to detect the roadway, in front of this house.

8 Agosto 1772. Gran loggia che dominava il giardino di essa casa.
PAH 1,1, p.266, 14th August 1772, addendum p. 158.
We have excavated a room of the known dwelling, painted with a red background with various divisions, in each of which there was a griffin, a bird: the frieze was white with some bands and coloured compartments, but nothing was found there.
(addendum p.158: other rooms painted in the same: they are the rooms below the east portico, at the level of the garden on the lower floor.)
PAH 1,1, p.266, 22nd August 1772.
We have freed another room adjoining to that already described, that was decorated on the walls with various compartments and grotesque arabesques on a red background, and in the same manner the vault was decorated on a white background; not even in this room was anything found.

“No.52.
PAH 1,1, p.266, 29th August 1772, addendum p.127 and 158. (La Vega: 52, 53, 54).
We have evacuated a room in the said dwelling, neighbouring to the others described. In this the floor was of ordinary mosaic, and painted in its vault and in its walls with a yellow background with various grotesque decorations and bands, that have between them, some compartments of various figures. In the zoccolo, there were three paintings: one of a landscape, and the other two with things belonging to dinner; 3 paintings existed in the main part of the plaster, one with pheasant and chicken and with a basket of fruit, another with two fishes, and the other was a medallion with a landscape; in the vault there were also 3 paintings, two with landscapes, and the other with animals.
The vault of this room was well preserved in the part that still existed, but the plaster of the walls was very ruined, particularly as the ancients themselves had assembled some lime here.
We have also freed another portion of the portico in front of the same rooms, which was part of that that went around the garden, and here were found –
Four pieces of ivory (avolio), portions of a statue perhaps the boy Hercules with a club in his right hand.
(According to Pagano & Prisciandaro, this statue is inventory number: NAP 78284).
See Pagano, M. and Prisciandaro, R., 2006. Studio sulle provenienze degli oggetti rinvenuti negli scavi borbonici del regno di Napoli. Naples: Nicola Longobardi. (p.73)
This had fallen from the upper floor or main floor and was found amongst the soil near the described number.
Also found were various pieces of ivory, part of a decoration of foliage, and four pieces of the same material belonging to an ionic capital, all things that we believe were part of a piece of furniture. (NAP: sn)
Nearby we found: three bronze locks with corresponding hinges. A ring for a compass with its small eye and sheet/slab/plate (piastra). A coin. A piece made at right-angles, and some fragments of bronze. Made in bone, four circles worked to turn vertically, and one of these with an apple in the middle. Another piece, almost a small round box, with a hole in the middle and another small at the side.
