According to Wilhelmina;
“We made a short trip to Oplontis and were amazed at what had been accomplished during the previous two years.
Deep underground the walls of an enclosed garden were coming into view, and two walls were covered with garden paintings, but not well preserved. This was one of 13 gardens that I later excavated at this luxurious villa. In a nearby room we were shown a painting in which broken pieces of plaster that had fallen from the wall had been cemented together. It was one of the most beautiful still life paintings ever found at the Vesuvian sites. A glass bowl, was piled high with many quinces and purple plums, the colours as bright as the day they had been painted.”
